A. CHILDREN (up to seven years of age)

Through the sacrament of Baptism, we are washed clean of sin, born again as daughters and sons of God, configured to Christ and incorporated into the Church, his body. Infant Baptism is the normative way to begin the initiation of children into the Church.

Parents are required to participate in a pre-baptism class preparing them for their role and responsibility in the faith formation of their child. Ordinarily, a minimum of approximately three hours is required for this preparation. Classes are held quarterly, please contact the parish office (512.556.5544).

Sponsors or godparents are to be selected by the parents according the requirements found in Canon 874 which states that at least one sponsor [godparent] is required. The person is to be of the same sex as the child and be a fully initiated practicing Catholic.

To perform the role of sponsor [godparent], it is necessary that a person: (CIC 874)

  • be designated by the parents or the one who takes their place or, in their absence, by the pastor or minister and is to have the qualifications and intention of performing the role
  • have completed the sixteenth year;
  • be a practicing Catholic who has been confirmed and has already received the Sacrament of the Eucharist and leads a life in harmony with faith and the role to be undertaken;
  • not be bound by any canonical penalty; and
  • not be the father or the mother of the one to be baptized.
  • If godparents are not from the same parish or the geographic area, they may attend the classes in another parish. If this is the case,
  • they are to provide evidence that they attended the class; and
  • supply evidence that they are eligible to be a sponsor. This can be a written statement from their pastor.
  • In the Dioceses of Austin, Catholics who are to serve as sponsors are to sign the "Covenant Form" testifying they are Catholic in good standing with the Church, fully initiated, and if married they are married according to the laws of the Church.

Parents of children who have reached the age of seven (7) who wish to have their child baptized must contact a priest or deacon of the parish to discuss their situation.

Adults seeking to be baptized or to join the Catholic Church need also to contact a priest or deacon.
