Religious Education (Faith Formation)

"Life-long faith formation is always needed and must be a priority in the Church's catechetical ministry; moreover, it must be considered the chief form of catechesis. All the other forms, which are indeed always necessary, are in some way oriented to it."
- Ven. John Paul II.

St. Mary's parish, and it's mission Good Shepherd, takes seriously the words of Pope John Paul II.

In order that we might achieve
life-long faith formation, and at the same time respect the busy schedules of families, our faith formation classes are on Wednesday evenings for all grade levels (Pre-K to 12th grade).

When children and teenagers see adults attending classes they come to understand that learning and growing in faith on deeper levels is an important
life-long responsibility; thus, our adult sessions are for ALL adults in our parish, not just those with children attending "RE."

Parents / guardians from Good Shepherd attending adult sessions at St. Mary's are encouraged to register their child in the St. Mary's classes.

For additional information please call the parish office, 556-5544, and leave a message for Mrs. Wanda Bunting, our Director of Faith Formation or e-mail at

Registration begins in September and continues throughout the year. Adults, youth and children are invited to join classes at any time. Please note that sacrament preparation classes have a specific beginning and ending time - those preparing for the reception of sacraments are expected to attend all classes.

Religious Education Registration for Pre-K to 12th grade will continue at St. Mary's Parish Hall behind the church each Wednesday before class from 5:50pm to 6pm. The parish is requesting $15 per child at registration to offset the costs of classroom materials. Please contact Wanda Bunting at if you have any questions.

Registration for Good Shepherd Religious Education Pre-K through 12th grade will be held Sundays after the 8am Mass.  There is no registration fee for families at Good Shepherd.  For additional information or to volunteer please contact Gail Eltgroth at or call 752-8322
Through baptism each of us is called to "teach all nations . . ." While most of us will never go on mission to foreign lands we have many occasions when we can share our Catholic faith with family members, friends and other parishioners.

Our faith formation programs offer several opportunities for you to share your faith with adults, youth and children. These include:

  • Children and Youth Catechist (Teacher), Aide, Substitute, Monitors, or Registration/Office Helper; and
  • Faith Companion for adults inquiring into the Catholic faith just to name a few.
All adults working with children and youth must complete a formal application and the Ethics and Integrity in Ministry workshop (diocesan requirement).
