Sacristan:The Sacristan takes responsibility for the sacred
vessels, breads and wine, and vestments and altar linens. The Sacristan is the
one who opens the church, turns on the lights and A/C or heat, sees that wine
and bread are available for Mass, and sees that candles, sacred books, and
missalettes are in place.
Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion: This ministry has had
several names in the last few years to include Eucharistic Minister or Lay
Eucharistic Minister. This minister assists the priest with the distribution of
Holy Communion at Mass. This minister may also bring Holy Communion to the sick
and homebound.
Proclaimer: This ministry has also had several names in the past
to include Lector or Reader. This minister reads the first and second readings
at Mass. It is preferable to have two readers at each Mass. One of the readers
will also act as the commentator prior to the beginning of Mass.
Altar Server: After receiving training, the altar server assists
the priest with the Mass.
Greeter: The greeter is responsible for making people feel welcome
as they arrive at the church for Mass.
Usher: The usher is similar to the greeter, but is responsible for
collecting the first and second collections, seating people who have trouble
finding empty seats, bringing in late-arriving people at an appropriate time,
obtaining and handing out bulletins after Mass.
English Choir: The English Choir sings traditional hymns with an
organ accompaniment at the 10:00 AM Sunday Mass on an alternating basis with
the Folk Group.
Spanish Choir: The Spanish Choir sings music in Spanish with
guitars at the 12:15 PM Sunday Spanish Mass every week.
Folk Group: The Folk Group sings more contemporary music with
guitar accompaniment at the 10:00 AM Sunday Mass on an alternating basis with
the English Choir. They have required practice once a week in the evening and
also an hour before Mass in the church.
Musician: We are looking for more musicians who play guitar,
organ, or piano to accompany the choirs.
Cantor: A Cantor leads the congregation in musical responses.
Liturgy Committee: The Liturgy Committee is responsible for
planning the liturgy used in the celebration of Mass on a weekly basis, as well
as planning special liturgy for Holy Days and other special feasts of the
church year. This committee is also involved in the training and scheduling of
other ministers in the other above mentioned ministries.
