In the Year of the Priesthood
It has been a while since the Easter Season passed. Now we are in the midst of 2009. Time is running fast and in six more months we will be ready to say bye to this year. Things change a lot so quickly but the only one that really matters is our communion with God and with one another. What have you done to strengthen your relationship with the Lord and neighbor? As Catholics, we have too much to be proud of: Seven Sacraments, a Liturgy plenty of rich signs, opportunities to serve others in the name of the Lord with works or charity, prayers, novenas, rosaries, sacrifices, etc. Pope Benedict XVI declared June 19 2009 to June 19 2010 a Year of Priesthood. According to our baptismal call, we participate in the Priestly life of Jesus as prophets, kings and priests when we share our faith in different ways that make us all instruments of God to build his Kingdom here on earth But also, Jesus has called some to minister the people of God: They are the deacons, priests and bishops. This one is called a Ministerial Priesthood. I do encourage all of you to pray for us priests. You know how difficult is to be a good priest if a priest dos not have the support of many prayers and sacrifices of the people of God. What can you do for your Pastor in this Year of Priesthood? Pray for him, pray for him and pray for him unceasingly. If you want to do a little more than that, please be involve in an activity of your Parish. Without your active participation in the life of the Parish, it is impossible for a priest to be a good shepherd of the flock. Do not be afraid of sharing your talent, time and treasure for the sake of the Kingdom. On the second weekend of October 2009 we will have our Fall Festival, the main fundraiser of the year. Please be aware that this is not only to raise money but to create an opportunity to exercise our baptismal call to become one body in Christ Jesus. We need you participate in the organization and execution of this great event. Do you have gifts to advertise, or to sell or to cook or to lead games or to direct the traffic, etc? We do really need you. Are you willing to help picking up the trash, or cleaning some areas, or helping newcomers, or doing whatever is necessary for a successful event? We do really need you. Please call us at 512 556 5544. “Whatever you do, work at it with your whole being. Do it for the Lord rather than for men, since you know full well you will receive an inheritance from him as your reward”. Col. 3,23-24.
